The improvement between Foxy Brown's first and second Ras sessions was dramatic. Everything on My Kind Of Girl, from the material to the vocals and production, was dramatically superior to the preceding release. Brown now was not only singing with more clarity, assurance and melodic quality, but didn't sound anywhere as nasal or flat as she had before. Brown also demonstrated thematic and emotional variety in her sound and delivery, ranging from suggestive to alluring to domineering. Only the final number, an ill-advised reggae remake of Anita Baker's "Rapture," fizzled; Brown showed on every other tune why she was among the better female reggae singers during the late '80s and early '90s. ~ Ron Wynn, All Music Guide
