    All Music Guide Review

Dave's True Story is a duo, David Cantor and Kelly Flint, based in the Greenwich Village songwriter's community. Cantor, who writes the material, has a very wry macabre sense of humor. Its not that these are funny songs but some are so dark you can't help but laugh. The arrangements, which owe a debt to classic Blue Note Jazz, are beautifully recorded. Cantor plays guitar and Kelly Flint sings with a breezy Julie London/June Christy sort of sound. Flint's flat delivery of the gender bending "Nadine" is very classy. All her vocals are understated and clearly communicate the smartness of the lyrics. Other key tracks are "My Last Go Round" about impending reincarnation and a pick-up bar, and "Flexible Man," which is an upscale generous song about bondage. ~ Richard Meyer, All Music Guide
