    All Music Guide Review

For part of this LP, cornetist Red Nichols (with the assistance of clarinetist Heinie Beau's arrangements) revisited his earlier "hits" with successful remakes of such songs as "Buddy's Habits," "Japanese Sandman," "Avalon" and "Washboard Blues." In addition there are three newer songs co-written by Nichols and Beau. Red's Five Pennies are augmented by Jackie Coon's mellophone, a couple of reeds and the percussion (including tympani) of Ralph Hansell. This is an excellent album well deserving (along with most of Nichols's hard-to-find Capitol LP's) of being reissued on CD. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
