Ace's Wop Ding a Ling compilation documents New York doo wop from the late '50s and '60s, more specifically covering the labels run by Bob Shad: Brent, Shad, and Time. Along with other anthologies, like Rockin' on Broadway and More Rockin' on Broadway, Wop Ding a Ling offers some great moments scattered amongst a fair amount of material that's satisfactory at best. Regardless, the three labels showcased in these compilations are put together in loving fashion. Here, just to name a handful, you get songs from the Big 5 ("Wop Ding a Ling"), the Fabulous Five Flames ("No More Tears"), the Tabbys ("My Darling"), the Chevrons ("Don't Be Heartless"), the Gardenias ("I'll Be Seeing You in My Dreams"), and the Holidays ("Come Back to Me"). ~ Andy Kellman, All Music Guide
