I NEVER FELT BETTER IN MY LIFE 1979 - 1982

    All Music Guide Review

If you haven't already noticed, the Fall's discography has many more compilations than it should. A few are excellent, some are really good, and a large stack of them are awful, but I Never Felt Better in My Life is only awful in title. Like the bulk of Fall comps, this is just confusing. It represents a small slice of time in the band's long career and chooses an interesting set of tracks to do so, but extremely important numbers from the era are missing, with "How I Wrote 'Elastic Man'," "Fiery Jack," and "Rowche Rumble" noticeably absent. Still, "Hip Priest," "Rebellious Jukebox," and "Totally Wired" are all arguably in the band's Top Ten songs, while "The Classical" and "Winter" are fan favorites you might study if you took Fall 102. The rest is good but graduate-level material, and even if I Never Felt Better would place with their albums of the time, it doesn't offer that nonstop parade of excellence that compilations should. Check 50,000 Fall Fans Can't Be Wrong for that experience and leave this one for those foolish enough to think this difficult and eccentric cult band would ever willingly appear on a label called The Great American Music Company. ~ David Jeffries, All Music Guide
