All Music Guide Review

When remixing, the Pet Shop Boys make any artist sound a lot like the Pet Shop Boys, which is probably why they get the job in the first place. The fourth volume of their sporadic Disco compilation series breaks from the usual plan -- outside artists remixing Pet Shop Boys songs -- and focuses on PSB as remixers. Here they turn the Killers' "Read My Mind" into a dance anthem and Yoko Ono's "Walking on Thin Ice" into a Euro-trash track that would mix well with any given Fischerspooner song, while Madonna's "Sorry" turns into something that could have fallen off PSB's 1987 album, Actually. The only big surprise is how often singer Neil Tennant adds his own vocals to the tracks, and in the case of David Bowie's "Hallo Spaceboy" he goes as far as to add new lyrics. This Bowie remix was almost impossible to obtain before and the cuts are all mixed together to create a nonstop journey, so at the very least Disco 4 offers hardcore fans more new experiences than previous volumes. ~ David Jeffries, All Music Guide
