Most of the songs included on this compilation soundtracked the The Shield's adrenaline-drunk scenes which, as any fan of the show will tell you, tended to eat up a good portion of each episode. So it's mostly chugging metal riffs, rugged hip-hop beats, and agressive vocals, many of which come from Latin artists (Brujeria, Ill Niño, Conejo, Peyote Asesino). The songs that complemented the more pensive moments, on the other hand, aren't factored in (songs by Alice in Chains, Magnetic Fields, Coldplay and Grant Lee Buffalo spring immediately to mind). And, unfortunately, Duran Duran's "Hungry Like the Wolf" -- which Dutch was playing during the hilarious end of a very uncomfortable date -- did not make the cut, either. Regardless, the disc is an appropriate way to take The Shield with you, whether at the office or on the road, especially if you wish you were striking shady deals or cracking skulls instead of answering e-mail or returning bottles. ~ Andy Kellman, All Music Guide
