    All Music Guide Review

When it comes to dance music, everyone has their own distinct and fervent opinion. Some will say that nothing beats disco -- you can sing while you dance. Others opt for techno or rave with the deep beats and not a whole lot of melody going on. Still others swear by the grooves of funk. All of those genres hold definite merit in the discussion. Somewhere in there, however, lies a whole decade of great dance music. Perhaps glossed over because of the really bad hair and fashion statements, the '80s, nevertheless, begat some awfully good booty-shaking tunes. From Snap's "Rhythm Is a Dancer" all the way through to "Gonna Make You Sweat" by C+C Music Factory, Energy for the 90's is the proof in the pudding of such offspring. Where else can you get "Hippychick," "Groove Is in the Heart," and "I'm Too Sexy" all in one? And more than likely, you really aren't in the market for an entire album by Right Said Fred. Sometimes one-hit wonders do offer a fine contribution to society. And this is a great collection of said contributions to the cause of groove. ~ Kelly McCartney, All Music Guide
