    All Music Guide Review

    Old School Funk Box Set is a straight-up repackaging of the first three volumes in Thump Records' Old School Funk series. The title may be a bit misleading for those expecting Parliament/Funkadelic or James Brown; this set covers mostly urban contemporary funk from the late '70s and '80s with a few stray throwbacks to the early '70s as well. But the sound tends to be less organic and more electronic, which isn't a bad thing at all, it just may not be exactly what buyers conceive of as "old school." It does cover its territory in entertaining fashion, though, which may make it a good value for the money. ~ Steve Huey, All Music Guide
