"With Paramount Pictures as the ideal setting, the glamour and musical heritage of L.A. are sure to be catalysts for creating explosive pop culture moments that the VMAs are known for," Van Toffler, president of MTV Networks Music Group, said in a statement.
This year's VMAs will mark the station's twenty-fifth broadcast and feature nominees based in part on the votes of viewers. Last year's show was in Vegas and included such awkward but awesome moments as Britney Spears' infamous opening act, an off-camera fight between Kid Rock and Tommy Lee, and a backstage outburst from Kanye West. The last time the VMAs were in Los Angeles was a decade ago.
